Mainbrew Beer was founded in 1991 by its present owner, operator and spiritual leader, Kevin. Kevin has a degree and a background in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California, and a continuing dedication to providing accurate, scientifically valid information to homebrewers, winemakers and beer-drinkers. Education and knowledge are the keys to success in beer making and the staff at mainbrew will take as much time as necessary explaining and answering all of your questions.....
With all the information Out There, and all of the uncertainties of doing something new, things can get confusing: we want you to feel comfortable with brewing your first batch of beer, or tapping your first keg since your senior year of high school, or making sure your dandelion wine smells like Springtime in a bottle. There are no stupid questions and we will take our time to make sure you feel comfortable.
In the store, you will probably come upon Douglas. Douglas is excellent in customer service and has 2 decades of wine, beer and mead-making experience to help him answer even the most complex questions. Through the years, he has become pretty obsessed with mead-making and has been producing some incredible honey wines. He was recently hired by a commercial meadery to be their head mead-master and mainbrew will be carrying some of his newly-released meads in the store by Autumn of 2012. Douglas built the defining website on mead-making www.traditionalmead.com. Be sure to come in and chat him up if you have any questions about this elusive, ancient beverage.... Or fermentations in general.
We are also very lucky to have Jon working in the store five days a week. Jon has an amazing knowledge of esoteric beer styles and is a wealth of information on most anything beer, wine or mead-related. Jon is our go-to-guy for all the stuff that nobody else can remember - and he is very good at it. He has an amazing affinity for recipes (and people) and has been a huge asset to mainbrew over the past few years. If you have a question about brewing or fermentation, Jon can probably answer it. In depth. He has also stepped up and become our resident expert at cheese-making, distilling and kombucha-making.
